since 1850. It is the oldest stock life insurance company in the United States. The company insures more than one million people in all 50 through individual, group, life, and health plans, pensions and annuity
products. Domiciled in New York, US Life is rated A+ by A.M Best company, the leading independent rating service on the financial health of insurance companies since 1899.
Special Features US Life offers coverage to employer groups of 2 or more employees. US Life is one of the lowest priced carriers for young males. US Life does not
ask any health questions of dependent children. US life does not ask any health questions for groups with 10+ employees.
Rates and Service Overall rates are dependent on the gender mix of your group. Service has improved since switching PPO carriers to PHCS but is still average at best.
Underwriting and Billing Underwriting is by health statement and sometimes, medical records. With no health questions of dependent children, US Life has a significant advantage over all carriers. Expect several weeks lead time to get apporved. A stiff billing fee of $25 per period is an incentive to quarterly billing.
In Illinois and NW Indiana, the maximum load for health is 25% for groups of 3+. Most carriers will load 200-400%.
Renewal Rate History While renewal rate trend are moderate, the exceptionally high rates for females can really distort the cost effectiveness.
